HOLLYWOOD — “Law & Order: SVU” star Mariska Hargitay and Dana Delany have signed to star in a pair of original movies for Lifetime.
Femme cabler has greenlit production on both projects, set to premiere later this year.
Hargitay toplines the two-hour telepic “Plain Truth,” penned by Matt Tabak (“Obsessed”) and based on Jodi Picoult’s bestselling novel of the same title. Lifetime previously adapted another of Picoult’s books, “The Pact,” which starred Megan Mullally.
Delany, meanwhile, stars in “Baby for Sale,” inspired by a true-life story.
“Plain Truth” concerns a cynical lawyer (Hargitay) who takes on the case of an 18-year-old Amish woman accused of murder.
Alison Pill (“Pieces of April”) appears as the accused young woman. Cabler will bow the project in July.
Exec producers are Michael Prupas and Alys Shanti. Pic is produced by Plain Truth Prods. and distributed by Robert Greenwald Prods.
“Baby for Sale” centers on a couple mistakenly caught in a bidding war while trying to adopt a child from a foreign country. The couple agrees to go undercover in an attempt to expose the baby-selling ring.
Leslie Greif and Judy Polone exec produce. “Baby for Sale” is produced by Christal Film Prods. in association with Muse Entertainment and distributed by Lions Gate Television.
Hargitay’s credits include a recurring role on “ER” and the features “Lake Placid” and “Leaving Las Vegas.”
Delany received two Emmys for her work on “China Beach.” Thesp most recently starred in the CBS drama “Presidio Med,” Hallmark telepic “A Time to Remember” and the Showtime original “Conviction.”
