Net predicts early success for 'World Series'
HOLLYWOOD — Even before audiences can say, “Hit me,” GSN is doubling up on blackjack.
Cabler has greenlit the casino skeins “Celebrity Blackjack” and “World Blackjack Tour,” betting early on the success of the channel’s “World Series of Blackjack,” scheduled to premiere in March.
Shows seem safe bets if Bravo’s “Celebrity Poker Showdown” is any indicator — the finale drew 1.7 million viewers and record ratings for the cabler two weeks ago.
Seven-episode order for “Celebrity Blackjack,” similar to Bravo’s “Showdown,” centers on a tournament with 25 celebs competing for a favorite charity. Winners from the first five rounds will advance to the finals, as well as a wild-card second place winner.
“We just finished taping the ‘World Series of Blackjack’ from Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, and each game was incredibly suspenseful through the last hand played,” GSN president-CEO Rich Cronin said. “We are thrilled to be adding to GSN’s ‘Blackjack’ franchise by creating these new tournaments.”
“World Blackjack Tour” will showcase top professional blackjack games from around the world to culminate in a high-stakes match between winners from each location.
Both shows are scheduled to bow this summer.
