Fox’s ‘Simple’ rules Wednesday

One of the final episodes of reality series “The Simple Life” dominated its timeslot Wednesday in key demos and helped the net to a nightly victory in adults 18-49, according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen.

At 8:30, “Simple Life” (6.2/16 in adults 18-49, 12.2 million viewers overall) topped its closest competitor in 18-49, ABC comedy “It’s All Relative” (3.7/10 in adults 18-49, 8.8 million viewers), by 6 big shares. Net also received strong second-place finishes at 8 from “That ’70s Show” (4.5/13 in adults 18-49, 8.9 million viewers) and in the 9 o’clock hour from “The OC” (4.5/11 in adults 18-49, 9.4 million viewers).

NBC started the evening sluggishly with “Ed” (3.0/8 in adults 18-49, 9.1 million viewers) but picked it up with “The West Wing” (4.4/11 in adults 18-49, 13.5 million viewers overall) and “Law & Order” (6.2/16 in adults 18-49, 17.9 million viewers).

ABC was strong at 8 with “My Wife and Kids” (4.7/13 in adults 18-49, 11.6 million viewers), which won its slot in 18-49, but didn’t do much with special “Life After Extreme Makeover” at 9 (3.3/8 in adults 18-49, 7.9 million viewers) or the premiere of reality skein “Celebrity Mole: Yucatan” at 10 (3.6/9 in adults 18-49, 7.2 million viewers).

CBS won the 9 o’clock hour with “King of Queens” (5.0/13 in adults 18-49, 14.0 million viewers overall) and was competitive at 9:30 with “Becker” (4.0/10 in adults 18-49, 12.3 million viewers).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 4.9/13; NBC, 4.5/12; ABC, 3.7/10; CBS, 3.6/9; WB, 1.3/3; UPN, 0.7/2.

In total viewers: NBC, 13.5 million; CBS, 12.1 million; Fox, 10.0 million; ABC, 8.5 million; WB, 3.0 million; UPN, 2.1 million.
