‘Desperate’ does it again

Morning Ratings Flash - Rick Kissell

ABC’s “Desperate Housewives” was again easily Sunday night’s biggest draw, according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, roughly matching its highest demo score to date and teaming with the hot “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” to give ABC the night in all key ratings categories.

From 9 to 10, “Desperate Housewives” (11/24 in adults 18-49, 14.6 million viewers overall) was a tick off its series high in 18-49, beating the other four broadcast networks combined in the demo. The Alphabet also looked good at 7 with “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (3.2/9 in adults 18-49, 9.6 million viewers overall), dominated at 8 with “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” (7.5/18 in adults 18-49, 18.2 million viewers overall) and was solid at 10 with “Boston Legal” (projected 5.1/13 in adults 18-49, 12.3 million viewers overall).

Each of NBC’s shows was on the high end of its ratings range for the season, led by “Crossing Jordan” (5.1/13 in adults 18-49, 14 million viewers overall) and “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” (4.6/10 in adults 18-49, 15.2 million viewers overall). Also, “Dateline” (2.3/6 in adults 18-49, 8.5 million viewers overall) matched its best delivery since May and “American Dreams” (2.8/7 in adults 18-49, 8.8 million viewers overall) drew its largest aud of the season.

Fox benefited from an NFL overrun, but “The Simpsons” was on the low side (4.5/11 in adults 18-49, 9.9 million viewers overall) and “Arrested Development” again dropped off sharply from there (3/7 in adults 18-49, 6.3 million viewers overall). From 9 to 10, “My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss” continued to draw yawns from auds (1.6/3 in adults 18-49, 3.4 million viewers overall).

CBS received a solid showing from “Cold Case” (3.7/9 in adults 18-49, 15.8 million viewers overall) but didn’t do much with pic “Back When We Were Grownups” (2.2/5 in adults 18-49, 11.8 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: ABC, 6.8/16; NBC, 3.7/9; Fox, 3.5/8; CBS, 2.8/7; WB, 1.1/3.

In total viewers: ABC, 16.3 million; CBS, 13.4 million; NBC, 11.2 million; Fox, 8 million; WB, 2.7 million.
