Crunch in India over cricket series

Only half of domestic TV homes will see historic match

NEW DELHI — Dubai-based sports satcaster Ten Sports will air live broadcast rights to the India vs. Pakistan cricket series in March, and has so far refused to sell on any windows to pubcaster Doordarshan.

The news is a blow to cricket-mad Indians — only half of the 80 million TV homes have access to cable and satellite.

Cricket is the most popular sport in the subcontinent, and this series is particularly important, as it will be the first time in 15 years that the Indian team has set foot in Pakistan, due to political problems between the two countries.
