NEW YORK — “Not bad for a kid from Queens to get something from the Queen,” quipped Miramax co-topper Harvey Weinstein upon being made a Commander of the British Empire Nov. 22 at British Consul-General Philip Thomas‘s tony penthouse.
Weinstein couldn’t help but take a dig at Disney during the proceedings, witnessed by a who’s-who of power players including Steve Rattner, Jim Dolan, Brian Roberts, Lorne Michaels and brother Bob.
“Sixty-five BAFTA awards and 75 Oscars and Michael Eisner won’t renew our contract,” he said, after mentioning that the honor was “as much (Bob’s) as it is mine because we have shared everything.”
“We have always loved movies and we’ve been lucky enough to build our passion into a profession,” Weinstein said. “We will continue in that course.”
So what was the honcho going to do with the queen’s medal?
Of course he’d put them in his daughter’s room where all his Oscars are. “She thinks that this now makes her a princess,” he said regarding his latest accomplishment.
