Sweating ‘Yards’ yuks

Deutch understands o'seas release obstacles

HOLLYWOOD — At last week’s Chinese Theater preem for “The Whole 10 Yards,” producer Elie Samaha said the current good news about selling a film overseas “is the Euro is at $1.30 and the international guys want to pay right away.”

However, Samaha said the tough part of selling a comedy like “Yards” is “the international guys don’t get any of the jokes, so you’re sweating during the screening.”

On the creative side, helmer Howard Deutch said he learned from “Grumpier Old Men” that “you can run into a buzz saw” when releasing a dialogue-driven comedy overseas.

Among those toasting the sequel’s prospects — Stateside and overseas — at the Sunset Room after-party April 7 were Warners’ Alan Horn, Dawn Taubin, Dan Fellman and Kevin McCormick.
