The Playboy Mansion provided a glitzy but intimate backdrop for the Grand Classics presentation of “Sweet Smell of Success” earlier this month. The series kicked off its L.A. debut with an intro by husband-and-wife team Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor, who described the caustic 1957 satire as one of their faves, but quickly added a caveat.
“We’re not film experts,” Stiller said. “Really, this was just an excuse to come party at the Mansion with my parents.”
Said parents Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara were in attendance along with Michael Vartan, Gael Garcia Bernal, “Dodgeball” thesp Alan Tudyk and, of course, Hugh Hefner, who stayed for the screening but promptly ditched the afterparty for another.
Grand Classics series also run in Gotham and London. Yves Saint Laurent, which unveiled a sweet smell of its own by airing its new Cinema fragrance, sponsored the inaugural L.A. sesh.
