ROME — Squeals of female fans pealed through the Eternal city Friday night upon the arrivals of Brad Pitt and Matt Damon for the Euro preem of “Ocean’s Twelve” at the Warner Cinema Moderno in central Rome.
Damon and Pitt jovially coined themselves “Ocean’s Two” in the wake of co-star George Clooney‘s absence due to back problems.
“George was really sad he couldn’t come here,” Pitt said. “It was his idea to have the international premiere in Rome, to say thank you to the city and have the first people to see the film overseas be Italians.”
Thesps poked fun at their ailing co-star.
“He’s just old,” they said in unison. Producer Jerry Weintraub defended him: “George will be fine in a week.”
Clooney has a home in Italy and the crew claimed “Ocean’s Twelve” was conceived over a dinner in Rome’s Piazza del Popolo. “A lot of great films have been shot in this city and I don’t think we have let the city down,” Pitt enthused.
