Tat mounts Horse for a reality date

Shingle to develop skeins for b'cast nets, cable, syndication

“Blind Date” producer Harley Tat is hanging out his shingle, setting up nonfiction-focused Rocking Horse Road Entertainment.

Tat has served as exec producer-showrunner of Renegade 83 and NBC U’s “Blind Date” for the past two seasons, having been with the show for all of its five years and 1,000-plus episodes. He also exec produced and served as showrunner of Renegade’s “The 5th Wheel” during its two seasons in syndication.

Rocking Horse Road will look to develop reality skeins for broadcast nets, cable and syndication. Company may also attempt some hybrid skeins, mixing scripted and unscripted elements.

Tat said that, after years of working on productions created by others, he’s looking forward to developing some of his own concepts — particularly with reality TV as red hot as it is right now.

“Now’s the time to get the shows that have been percolating in my head and on paper out into the marketplace,” Tat told Daily Variety.

Tat said he’s working on a slate of nearly two dozen projects. Renegade’s David Garfinkle said he understood Tat’s decision to strike out on his own and predicted Tat “will become a major player in a short amount of time.”

Before “Blind Date,” Tat was a senior broadcast producer on “Hard Copy.” He also served as the West Coast producer for “A Current Affair.”
