Warner Bros. Pictures Intl. has named Christophe Mercier to the newly created position of VP, specialty films.
Based in London, Mercier will report to the respective heads of European marketing and distribution based in London, and of the overall division based in Burbank, Calif.
Mercier’s primary function will be to identify and evaluate opportunities relevant to the international releases of WBPI’s specialty films, which include Warner Independent Pictures titles, local productions and acquisitions (outside the country of origin) and other movies slated for select release.
Mercier’s day-to-day responsibilities will include developing a detailed business analysis of each niche title and coordinating with the relevant territory offices to assess title potential.
Previously, Mercier coordinated the acquisition and distribution strategies at Indie Circle, a partnership of five Euro territory distribs (France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland), whose first acquisition, “Osama,” was a commercial success. During this period, he also served as a film scout for the Directors Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival.
Additionally, Mercier, served in various capacities at international offices of UIP, Castle Rock, New Line and UNICEF.
