AMSTERDAM — Fox Kids Europe (FKE) , Fox Kids Latin America and ABC Cable Networks Group have launched a powerful new joint kids programming alliance across the globe called Jetix.
Under the alliance, all Fox Kids channels worldwide will be renamed Jetix. The alliance says its own research across the globe has identified Jetix as a word implying action and adventure and yet it “could be used in a number of international markets without being a proper name for something else.”
FKE chairman and CEO Bruce Steinberg told Daily Variety the alliance will “strengthen FKE’s partnership with Disney.” He added, “The FKE name and packaging will change but the content will remain the same. We’ll still have the same cheeky, daring, action-adventure, high-energy programming.”
Noted Steinberg, “The key thing for us is that we will have an outlet in the U.S. we can work with. We’ll be co-producing with the ABC Cable Network Group to develop programming that will air on Jetix channels worldwide.”
Anne Sweeney, ABC Cable Networks Group and Disney Channel Worldwide prexy, called Jetix “a strategic, ad-supported complement to Disney-branded television around the world.”
The alliance will feature original, acquired and library action series, including “Power Rangers,” that is expected to reach 137 million TV households in 77 countries and 18 languages.
Jetix-branded programming blocks will bow in the U.S. in February with primetime programming on Toon Disney and morning programming on ABC Family. In April, Fox Kids channels in Europe and the Middle East will begin airing Jetix programming blocks.
