MEXICO CITY — Televisa, the world’s largest producer of Spanish-language programming, has named Antonio Rallo Verdugo VP of strategic technology.
Rallo, who will report to chair Emilio Azcarraga, will guide the net in technological convergence — an issue in the cable and satellite industries, which are capable of transmitting video, telephony and Internet on the same line.
Televisa owns and operates Cablevision Mexico and Sky Mexico, but faces convergence competition from Telmex, the largest phone company in Mexico. Telmex recently won legal rights to exploit phone lines to transmit video signals, and has the largest wired infrastructure of any company in Mexico.
Rallo comes from Kio Networks, an information and technology services provider he co-founded that won Mexico’s National Technology Prize earlier this month. Prior to that, he ran NCubo, a venture capital fund directed at technology.
