Syndie ratings up as sun goes down

'Insider' dominated while 'Access' was unchanged

Syndicated national ratings were healthy during the week of Nov. 1-7 as 16 of the week’s top-20 weekday strips had higher ratings than they did the previous frame. Though election coverage caused preemptions and disruptions, skeins brought out extra-watchable episodes for sweeps period, which began Nov. 4, and the end of daylight-saving time helped keep viewers indoors.

Among frosh first-run skeins, “The Insider” continued to dominate, rising 13% to a series high of 2.7, sliding into the No. 3 newsmagazine spot, ahead of “Access Hollywood” (unchanged at 2.5). “Tony Danza” was the only other rookie first-run show to rise, up a tenth of a point to 1.3. “Jane Pauley” (1.6), “Ambush Makeover” (1.1), “Larry Elder” (0.8) and the now-cancelled “Home Delivery” (1.0) were unchanged, while “Pat Croce” (0.6) and “Life & Style” (0.4) each fell a tenth of a point.

Among new off-nets, “Malcolm in the Middle” (3.2), “Yes, Dear” (1.7), and “Girlfriends” (1.6) each rose a tenth, while “Fear Factor” (1.9) was unchanged.

“Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy” tied to lead all shows at 9.3, a new season high for both skeins and up from 8.9 and 8.7 the previous week, respectively.
