Rookie pair hit heights

'Men,' 'Vegas' ring in sizzling ratings

Monday night brought out the best in ratings for two of the season’s hottest new scripted shows, CBS comedy “Two and a Half Men” and NBC drama “Las Vegas.”

One night after its stars Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer hosted “The People’s Choice Awards” on the network, “Two and a Half Men” established new highs in adults 18-49 (6.2/15) and 25-54 (7.6/17), winning its 9:30 slot in both, as well as total viewers (17.86 million).

Among current skeins, “Two and a Half Men” is the season’s No. 1 new comedy in adults 18-49 and other key categories. It’s also retaining more of its lead-in than any show to air behind CBS Monday anchor “Everybody Loves Raymond,” including a 98% hold this week in 18-49 (6.2/15 vs. 6.3/16).

Airing from 9:09-10:09, NBC’s “Las Vegas” also established a series high in 18-49 (5.8/14), winning the hour in adults 18-34 (5.4/15) and key male demos. The new skein, starring Josh Duhamel and James Caan, is the season’s No. 1 new drama in 18-49.

Airing on opposite ends of the night, NBC reality skein “Fear Factor” (7.0/18 in 18-49, 16.18m) and CBS drama “CSI: Miami” (7.0/18 in 18-49, 19.73m) tied as Monday’s top draw in 18-49, with the latter standing as the most-watched show overall.

Of course, it helped both CBS and NBC on the night that ABC (“Enemy of the State”) and Fox (“Happy Gilmore”) served up repeat movies.

Lifetime did pretty well with its Anne Heche original telepic “Gracie’s Choice,” which was the most-watched program on basic cable (4.21 million), grabbing 5 shares in female demos.

Next week, Fox’s reality entry “My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance” joins the night after the special season premiere of “American Idol.”
