Restaurateur to top U.K.’s Channel 4

Johnson tapped to succeed Treeves

LONDON — In a surprise move, a former owner of Blighty’s top celebrity eatery, the Ivy, has been appointed chairman of broadcaster Channel 4.

Entrepreneur Luke Johnson, whose business ventures have included nightclubs as well as restaurants, succeeds Vanni Treeves.

Appointment, made by Blighty’s new communications regulator, Ofcom, was unexpected and shows the watchdog is prepared to think outside the box.

Former Coca-Cola U.K. topper Penny Hughes and ex-broadcaster Bob Phillis, now CEO of Guardian Media, were widely mentioned for the post.
