Playtone, HBO combo for ‘Love’

Director, cast still to be secured for spring pilot

HBO and Playtone are near an altared state on “Big Love,” an hourlong series about a polygamist and his relationship with his three wives.

HBO is looking to shoot a pilot episode in the spring once a director and cast is secured. “Love” was created and written by Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer. Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman will exec produce, and Olsen and Scheffer will be producers as well.

Project is one of several at HBO for Playtone’s Hanks and Goetzman. They are also working on two miniseries. One is “John Adams,” a story of the American Revolutionary War, with Kirk Ellis supervising the adaptation of the David McCullough book. Playtone is also reteaming with “Band of Brothers” collaborator Steven Spielberg on “The Pacific,” a look at the WWII campaign against Japan. Bruce McKenna is spearheading the scripting duties on that series.
