NEW YORK — Paramount Domestic TV Distribution delivered the ultimate thumbs down by canceling its 3-year-old syndicated movie-review series “Hot Ticket.”
A Par spokesman said the company has rung the curtain down on “Ticket” not because of declining ratings but because it needed the time periods for the hourlong weekend edition of its showbiz mag “The Insider,” which premieres in firstrun syndication Sept. 13.
“Ticket,” hosted by Leonard Maltin and Joyce Kulhawik, averaged a 1.5 household rating from September 2003 to early July 2004, according to Nielsen. By comparison, Buena Vista TV’s “Ebert & Roeper at the Movies” drew a 2.0 during the frame.
But during the May sweeps, “Ticket” had closed the gap, according to Par researchers, averaging a 1.6 rating compared to a 1.8 for “At the Movies.”
