NBC Universal has named Richard Cotton exec vice president and general counsel.
Longtime NBC exec Cotton had spent the last four years as president and managing director of CNBC Europe. Prior to that he was exec vice president and general counsel for 11 years.
Cotton replaces Lawrence P. Tu, who is leaving the Peacock to become general counsel of Dell computer.
“I’m delighted to welcome Rick back to a position he filled with distinction and which, with the merger of NBC and Universal, has greatly expanded in scope, responsibility and opportunity,” NBC U chairman and CEO Bob Wright said in a statement.
At CNBC Europe, Cotton is credited with expanding the biz net’s Euro reach to 85 million homes and developed programming partnerships in Germany, Italy, Turkey, Russia and the Middle East.
