Cable networks refuse to let the Titanic rest in peace at the bottom of the North Atlantic.
Following previous Discovery Channel specials on the shipwrecked vessel, the latest big-deal Titanic documentary extravaganza will show up June 7 on the National Geographic Channel.
Called “Return to Titanic,” the one-hour special centers on a scientific expedition to be led by Dr. Robert Ballard, who discovered the sunken wreck in 1985.
Hosted by ABC correspondent Jay Schadler, the one-hour docu, which includes some live underwater footage, will employ high-definition cameras to photograph the wreckage, comparing these images to the ones from 19 years ago. The comparison will allow Ballard and his experts to assess the deterioration.
Peter Schnall is director of “Return to Titanic” and co-exec producer with Hilary Sio for Partisan Pictures. For Nat Geo Channel, John Ford is executive in charge of production, with John Bowman as exec producer.
