Wynton Marsalis is a musician and artistic director, Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Roots: Born and raised in Kenner, La.
Comfort zone: “In my house working on music or relaxing with friends.”
Gotham influence: “The range of different people. New York City is like a pressure cooker of dreams, aspirations and different agendas all in one small place … like a cauldron.”
Culture club: “Museum of Modern Art has wonderful exhibits and a great layout in space. There are so many theaters in New York City from the small community theaters to Broadway, and many great modern dance houses from The New York State Theater where the New York City Ballet performs, to the Joyce Theater. There are many places to hear classical music of all kinds from Carnegie Hall to Riverside Church, and many jazz venues like the Jazz Standard, the Village Vanguard and Cleopatra’s Needle. We can’t wait to add the new home of Jazz at Lincoln Center to the mix this October.”
Food fix: “Sushi Den (49th Street, Eastside) because the food is good, good, good.”
