Farrow, Robb star in weblet's first telefilm

The WB has called on Mia Farrow to help the weblet usher in its new made-for-TV movie franchise.

Farrow has been cast in “American Girls: Samantha,” the net’s first telepic. The vet thesp will play Grandmary, the wealthy grandparent to 9-year-old orphan Samantha Parkington.

Set in 1904, “American Girls” revolves around Samantha as she moves in with her grandmother and learns how to become a proper Victorian young lady.

Anna Sophia Robb (“Because of Winn-Dixie”) is on board as Samantha, while Kelsey Lewis (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”) will play Nellie, a servant girl who’s Samantha’s best friend.

Rounding out the cast are Rebecca Mader (“All My Children”) as Samantha’s Aunt Cornelia, while Jordan Bridges (“Mona Lisa Smile”) will play Uncle Gard.

Slated to air sometime this year, pic was the first original telepic ordered by the Frog (Daily Variety, Feb. 13, 2003). Net has since started developing a wide variety of projects under longform chief Tana Jamieson.

Producers on the project include Revolution Studios, Red Om Films and Pleasant Co., the licensee behind the American Girls line of interactive dolls. Warner Bros. TV is also on board.

Farrow’s recent TV credits include guest stints on NBC’s “Third Watch,” as well as the Lifetime movie “The Secret Life of Zoey” and Showtime movie “A Girl Thing.”

The actress is still best known for her breakthrough role in Roman Polanski’s 1968 feature “Rosemary’s Baby”; she also starred in several films from her ex, Woody Allen, including “A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy,” “The Purple Rose of Cairo” and “Hannah and Her Sisters.”

Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Rachael Horovitz, Deborah Schindler, Lisa Gillan and scribe Richard LaGravenese will exec produce “American Girls: Samantha.”
