Inside Move: No way Ray won’t stay

Letterman expresses disbelief over 'Raymond's' end

David Letterman’s punchiness Monday extended to another CBS employee: Ray Romano.

Letterman asked guest Patricia Heaton whether or not “Everybody Loves Raymond” will be back next season. Host has a vested interest in the answer, since his production company is involved in the laffer. Heaton said Romano still hasn’t made up his mind, but that she’s been told to assume this is the show’s final season.

“That’s a load of crap. That’s such a load of crap,” Letterman said, expressing disbelief that anyone involved in the skein would walk away from such a massive hit.

He then teased Romano: “Where else is he going to get a job that pays a billion dollars a year?”

Romano and exec producer Phil Rosenthal are expected to make a final decision on “Raymond’s” fate by month’s end.
