Inside Move: ABC just too ‘Desperate’

Sudser actually the No. 2-rated show in primetime

ABC’s enthusiasm for red-hot hit “Desperate Housewives” got a little out of hand Sunday night.

As part of a sneak preview for next week’s episode, an Alphabet promo called “DH” the No. 1 show on television. There’s just one problem: It’s not.

CBS’ original recipe “CSI” remains the most-watched skein on the small screen, even among adults 18-49. While “DH” may be tops in terms of media attention and overall buzz — it’s even on the cover of the current edition of Newsweek — the sizzling sudser is actually the No. 2-rated show in primetime.

An ABC spokesman admitted the slip-up Monday. He said the promo was supposed to label “DH” the No. 1 new show on TV, as all of the net’s previous promos for the skein have said in recent weeks.

“It doesn’t take a crime scene investigator to figure out that CBS still has the No. 1 show in primetime,” the spokesman quipped.
