NEW DELHI — India’s largest private broadcaster, Zee TV, has acquired permission from the government to launch a business news channel.
ZeeBiz will go on the air Nov. 30. Government clearance is a must for broadcasters launching business or news channels in India on cable or satellite. Earlier Zee had soft-launched the business channel on its Dish TV platform.
ZeeBiz would kick off on the cable and sat platforms simultaneously as a 24-hour channel in a digitally encrypted format. The target audience for the channel is the huge Indian middle class.
Two other business news channels in Hindi lingo are planning launches. Television Eighteen has scheduled its channel for a December bow, while NDTV has yet to announce its date but is expected to launch its channel by year’s end.
