Brendan Fitzgerald has been promoted to senior VP, international production, at Sony Pictures TV Intl.
His promotion comes as the group expands local-language efforts globally, especially in Latin America.
Sony has been in the forefront of local TV production in Europe and the Far East for almost a decade, dispatching writer-producers and studio execs to territories to work with local counterparts to create shows with indigenous talent and storylines.
Fitzgerald, who will report to Steve Kent, senior exec VP of the international production unit, will relocate from SPTI’s headquarters in Culver City, Calif., to Miami to focus on local production biz in the U.S. Hispanic market and Latin America.
He is charged with the origination, development and pitching of projects to clients, as well as negotiations with local stations and production companies in the region.
The polyglot Fitzgerald has been instrumental in the success of SPTI’s productions in Russia (“Poor Anastasia”), Greece (“Dada”), Spain (“Demoda”), Argentina (“La Ninera”), Chile (“Loco por ti”) and Colombia (“Casados … con hijos”).
