Bosnian net enters Serbia

RTV Vicom hopes for strategic alliance to reach Belgrade

BUDAPEST — In a move that suggests Bosnia’s struggling media industry may be on stronger footing than that of neighboring powerhouse Serbia-Montenegro, private network RTV Vicom is beaming programming from its studios in Banjaluka, Republika Srpska (in Bosnia) to the northern Serbian province of Vojvodina.

According to network president Vinko Peric, whose headquarters are in the southern city of Sabac, the network’s ultimate plan is a strategic alliance with a Serbian cabler, which would allow the net to reach the Serbian capital of Belgrade, the media center of the republic.

RTV Vicom’s expansion makes it one of the former Yugoslavia’s most ambitious networks, with viewers in Croatia, Bosnia, and Serbia.
