Ageism, metaphorical balls hot topics at Board awards
Emcee Charles Busch kept the National Board of Review kudofest at a swift pace Tuesday at Tavern on the Green.
Effervescent “Something’s Gotta Give” star Diane Keaton accepted her actress kudos grinning from start to finish. “It’s not a crime to be a person of a certain age,” she said. “I don’t think I should be taken out to a field and shot.”
“Monster” honoree Charlize Theron gave a shoutout to Frances McDormand “for showing women that it’s OK to have balls.” McDormand later prefaced her ode to the “fully emerged” Sofia Coppola for special filmmaking achievement for “Lost in Translation” by saying, “Those balls my peer mentioned are metaphorical.”
