“Designing Women” vet Annie Potts has been cast in the ABC pilot “We Are Family,” while Shane West (“The League of Extraordinary Gentleman”) has landed a regular role on NBC’s “ER.”
Also Monday, Tom Sizemore (“Robbery Homicide Division”) has been given a guest slot on CBS’ “Dr. Vegas” pilot, and Craig Ferguson (“The Drew Carey Show”) has joined the Alphabet pilot “Hot Mom.”
Potts will play Linda Hubbard, a sharp-tongued family therapist and the single mother of Tom Everett Scott’s character. The Touchstone laffer stars Scott as a first-time dad who discovers his estranged father (William Devane) is also about to have a child.
Dan Staley, Rob Long and Tim Fall exec produce “We Are Family.” Potts’ recent credits include Lifetime telepic “The Julie Posey Story” and series “Any Day Now.” She’ll next be seen in the feature “Elvis Has Left the Building.”
West, meanwhile, will play a medical intern on “ER” next season. Like last year, the Warner Bros. TV/John Wells drama is already shooting the first two episodes for next fall, which means West has already shown up for work.
Thesp played Eli Sammler for three seasons on ABC’s “Once and Again.” Feature credits include “A Walk to Remember” and “Wes Craven Presents: Dracula 2000.”
As for Sizemore, gig could turn into a recurring role should the Eye pick up “Dr. Vegas” to series. He’ll play the character Happy, opposite Rob Lowe and Joe Pantoliano.
Both Sizemore and Pantoliano (“The Handler”) are recent CBS vets — and both of their shows aired Fridays at 10 p.m. Thesp’s recent feature credits include “Road to Perdition,” “Pearl Harbor” and “Saving Private Ryan.”
“Dr. Vegas” revolves around an inhouse casino doctor. John Herzfeld, Lawrence Bender, Mark Sennet and Kevin Brown exec produce for Warner Bros. TV, CBS Prods. and Bender-Brown.
Ferguson joins “Hot Mom” in the role of Ted Moore. Warner Bros. TV laffer pilot stars Gina Gershon as a cool mother with a conservative teenage daughter.
Suzanne Martin and Andy Ackerman exec produce. Ferguson, whose “Drew Carey” airs its final season this summer, was seen in feature “The Big Tease” and wrote and starred in the film “Saving Grace.”
He’ll also appear in “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.”
Also joining the show is Elizabeth Lundberg, who will play Ashley Ryan — Gershon’s daughter. Lundberg’s credits include “Third Watch.”
