PARK CITY — The unprecedented flurry of dealmaking at Sundance over the fest’s opening weekend was matched on the non-biz side by an explosion of sponsored parties and a frenetic chase for freebies.
Three Arts hosted a bash Friday night for “Employee of the Month” at multisponsor hub Village at the Lift, where the pic’s Matt Dillon and Christina Applegate were among revelers crowding into a two-story tented party palace. It was also the venue for Gersh and ICM/Samy Boy events on Saturday, while New Line hosted a jam-packed party for “Butterfly Effect” up the street. UTA and Amazon.com threw a party at the Palms on Sunday, while CAA had a benefit event for Inner-City Filmmakers next door at Harry O’s with a performance by Macy Gray.
Private lodges touting everything from phones to sneakers are hosting a steady flow of thesps, handlers and hangers-on seeking swag bags. Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher, Joe Pantoliano, Paris Hilton and Jennifer Tilly were among the weekend’s most ubiquitous celebs being chased by fans, paparazzi and brand pushers.
“I had people running after me on Main Street saying, ‘Here, have this computer,’ ” joked Tilly, in town for the preem of fest pic “Second Best.”
