Kyo nab four NRJ awards

Midem Brief

The French pop-rock group Kyo walked away with four trophies at the fifth annual NRJ Music Awards, held Saturday on the eve of Midem’s start at the Palais.

Ceremony featured Britney Spears, Beyonce Knowles, Seal, Kylie Minogue and Dido, as well as a half-dozen Franco popsters; most performed to pre-recorded tracks. Dido was the major non-French winner, receiving awards for international album and female performer.

Besides performing a rather risque dance routine to her song “Toxic,” Spears also presented an unexplained award to Madonna, who accepted it by saying, “My heart belongs to France.” Awards are similar to the American Music Awards in the U.S. in that fans do the voting.
