No Moore for Ronstadt after ‘9/11’ mention

Thrush in trouble for mixing politics and entertainment

LAS VEGAS — Singer Linda Ronstadt became a showstopper Saturday night at the Aladdin Resort.

During Ronstadt’s concert and before her first encore, she made laudatory comments about Michael Moore. Aladdin Resort spokeswoman Tyri Squyres said Ronstadt called Moore a great American patriot who is spreading the truth, and encouraged everyone to see his movie, “Fahrenheit 9/11.” She then dedicated her hit tune “Desperado” to the filmmaker.

According to Squyres, before Ronstadt could sing a note, the room erupted into a chorus of “boos” and about half the 5,000-member audience left the theater. Many requested a refund, but none were given by the box office.

Angry concertgoers also defaced some of Ronstadt’s posters inside the Aladdin.

After Ronstadt’s second encore, she was not allowed to return to her hotel room. She was escorted from the property by security and told to never return.

“This isn’t a partisan thing from the hotel’s standpoint,” Squyres said. “She was hired as an entertainer, not to use it as a political opportunity to espouse political views.”
