LAS VEGAS — A power outage Sunday afternoon forced the Bellagio Resort, home to the Cirque du Soleil stage show “O,” to close its doors for the first time.
As of Monday morning, no power or water was yet available in the resort property. All restaurants and the casino were closed while performances of “O” were suspended until further notice.
A prime tourist attraction, the dancing Bellagio fountains located on the Strip-side of the property are no longer working either.
The power originally went out about 2 a.m. on Sunday when a power line damaged the main cable going into the resort. “You don’t plan for the main power source to be compromised this way,” Bellagio spokesman Alan Feldman said.
He added that there were no injuries due to the outage and that all Bellagio guests were transferred to other Strip properties.
A new power cable needs to be installed and the Bellagio planned on beginning repairs Monday evening. No estimate was given on how long these repairs will take or when the Bellagio would reopen.
