Bart bounces into ‘Frogs’

Kattan ankles Aristophanes comedy

NEW YORK — Chris Kattan won’t be making his Broadway debut in “The Frogs” at Lincoln Center after all. The former “SNL” comic has been replaced by Roger Bart, last seen on the Gotham stage in “The Producers.”

Bart takes over the role of the slave Xanthias in the Aristophanes comedy, which has been freely adapted by Nathan Lane, Stephen Sondheim and Burt Shevelove. Susan Stroman directs.

Previews began June 22 at the Vivian Beaumont. Opening of the limited-run production is set for July 22.

Kattan played the first three weeks of “Frogs” previews. Bart, who will reprise his Tony-nominated turn as Carmen Ghia in the upcoming “Producers” pic, goes into the show later this week. Until then, understudy Timothy Gulan performs the role of Xanthias.

Bart recently co-starred in feature “The Stepford Wives.”
