NEW YORK — Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick’s follow-up to the “Producers” movie will be a Broadway revival of “The Odd Couple.”
The Neil Simon comedy looks to open August 2005 under the auspices of lead producer Emanuel Azenberg, who has produced several of the playwright’s works over the years. He has spoken of the project over the past few months, but had not nailed down a start date.
Director on the project is Joe Mantello, who helmed “Wicked.” In spring 2005, Mantello brings David Mamet’s “Glengarry Glen Ross” to Broadway.
“The Producers” movie begins filming in January.
The Lane and Broderick reteaming onstage will be the first time “The Odd Couple” has been revived on Broadway with men in the lead roles. The 1985 revival starred Rita Moreno and Sally Struthers as Olive and Florence. The 1965 world premiere headlined Art Carney and Walter Matthau.
