Teuton pix get funding

Haneke, Scimeca, Zambrano awarded coin

COLOGNE — Local and international film funding bodies have recently granted around $7.5 million in support of film productions with German participation.

Some $4 million for multinational projects have come from pan-European body Eurimages, which awarded coin of around $700,000 to Constantin Costa-Gavras’ “Le Couperet,” Michael Haneke’s “Cache” and Pasquale Scimeca’s “Passione di Giosue l’ebreo.” Major funding also went to Benito Zambrano’s “Habana Blues,” Anthony Byrne’s “Short Order” and Robert Glinski’s Gunter Grass adaptation “Unkenrufe.”

The Commission for French-German Cooperation has distributed $1.6 million to three pics: Claude Chabrol’s “La demoiselle d’honneur” (The Bridesmaid), Christian Carion’s “Joyeux Noel” and the live-action adaptation of Gallic comicbook classic “The Daltons vs. Lucky Luke,” directed by Philippe Haim.

Also, German funding body MDM has decided on some $2.5 million for local projects. These include German-Turkish comedy “Galatasaray Depor,” kidpic “Willi ist weg,” black comedy “Max und Moritz,” road movie “Verliebt in eine Leiche” (In Love With a Corpse) and TV movie “Die schoensten Jahre” (The Most Beautiful Years).
