Spain heads to Berlin

'Machinist,' 'Cachorro' added to Panorama at film fest

MADRID — Brad Anderson’s psychological thriller “The Machinist” and Miguel Albaladejo’s dramedy “Cachorro” (You’re Already a Man) have been selected for the arthouse Panorama section at this year’s Berlinale, which runs Feb. 5-15.

Film, which had its world preem Sunday in the Premiere section of the Sundance Film Fest, toplines Christian Bale and Jennifer Jason Leigh in the tale of an insomniac factory machinist who begins to suffer hallucinations. Pic was fully financed by Barcelona-based mini-major Filmax.

“Man” is the latest pic from the young Spanish helmer Miguel Albadejo (“Rancor,” “The Open Sky”). Pic follows a gay dentist who is forced to look after his 11-year-old nephew, and is, per Albaladejo, “an explosive mix of sentimental comedy, with dramatic elements and a lot of sex.” Pic is produced by the Madrid-based Star Line Prods.
