BERLIN — German home entertainment distributor EMS is going theatrical with Patty Jenkins’ “Monster,” its first bigscreen film.
Pic is screening in competition next month at the Berlin Intl. Film Festival. Charlize Theron, who won a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination for her performance as a serial killer, and co-star Christina Ricci are set to attend the Berlinale screening. “Monster” is due to hit local screens in April and will be released on DVD in the fall.
Commenting on the pic’s critical accolades, EMS’ chief exec Werner Wirsing said, “We managed the early acquisition of a top film without compromising our purchasing policy thanks to our recognition of such an accomplishment in acting and a sense of what the audience wants to see.”
EMS holds all German-language rights to the film, which marks EMS’ first step into theatrical distribution since the Dortmund-based company’s establishment in 1999. It will be releasing the film with Berlin-based distribution services company Central Film.
