Int’l thesps diving into ‘Backwaters’

Hindi-language version of pic planned with other actors

NEW DELHI — Billy Zane, Erika Eleniak and Jeff Trachta will star in Mumbai-based filmmaker Jag Mundhra’s Bollywood crossover thriller “Backwaters.”

The English-language pic is about a woman paralyzed in an accident who goes missing in India after flying to the country with her husband for medical treatment for her condition.

The title refers to the backwaters of scenic Kerala, the state in southern India where much of the film will be shot. Lensing will begin in March in Kerala and London.

Mundhra also plans to work on a Hindi-language version of the film, replacing the international cast with Indian actors.

The Bollywood veteran made headlines in 2001 with his film “Bawander” (Storm), based on the true story of a rape victim.
