Hit pic helps mend fences

Crossover pic saw healthy int'l B.O.

NEW DELHI — International film distribution company Eros is doing its part for India-Pakistan relations with its hit pic “Main Hoon Na” (I Am There for You), which opened nationwide and internationally on April 30.

Box office results were healthy for the action-filled Hindi-language film in both India and several international territories.

Pic revolves around the topical issue of bridging the political gap between India and Pakistan and bringing long-standing enmity between the two countries to an end.

Several attempts have been made recently to bring the people closer, such as casting Pakistani superstar Muammar Rana in Bollywood pic “Dobora” (Once Again).

Popular Bollywood choreographer (“Monsoon Wedding”) makes her directing debut Farah Khan with this venture.

Other recent films from Eros include Hindi-lingo hit “Masti” and crossover movie “The Perfect Husband,” which screened in the Cannes market.

“While we realize the Asian audience is core, we are looking to attract as wide an audience as possible to all our films,” says Lulla.
