Groups mentor young pic mavens

World Brief

Disadvantaged young South Africans are being given an opportunity to pursue a career in the film and television industry through a joint initiative by pan-African satcaster MultiChoice Africa, the Dept. of Labor and the National Film and Video Foundation.

Some 100 candidates will participate in a free film skills development and mentoring program that will run from June to September.

The fast-growing local production industry has led to a skills shortage in many fields, and it is hoped this program will address that problem as well create employment in a country with a 40% jobless rate.
