Bernstein, Kamen, Goldsmith honored

The Flanders Film Festival, which focuses on music composed for the movies, will pay tribute to the late composers Elmer Bernstein, Michael Kamen and Jerry Goldsmith at its 31st edition in Ghent, Belgium, Oct. 5-16.

Fest will feature the European or Benelux premieres of “Mean Creek,” with director Jacob Aaron Estes in attendance; “The Yes Men,” with director-producer Sarah Price attending; “The Clearing,” with director Pieter Jan Brugge attending; and “The Assassination of Richard Nixon,” with director Niels Mueller in attendance. Other premieres include “Birth,” “Hotel Rwanda” and “Maria Full of Grace.”

The international jury will be chaired by composer Maurice Jarre.

The World Soundtrack Award for lifetime achievement will be presented to the Bergmans, three-time Oscar winners, for their accomplishments in film music. Their hits include “The Way We Were” and “The Windmills of My Mind.”

On Oct. 14, fest will host a tribute concert conducted by Dirk Brosse in honor of Goldsmith with his widow, Carole Goldsmith, in attendance.
