Col takes Walk to exec VP

Larger role will include opening new marketing areas

HOLLYWOOD — Columbia Records has promoted Charlie Walk to executive vice president, creative marketing and promotion.

In his newly expanded role, Walk will implement strategic marketing strategies while opening up avenues in nontraditional marketing areas. He will work closely with Columbia’s senior level executive staff in coordinating strategic planning, including licensing and partnering with other corporate agencies.

Walk will continue to supervise and direct all aspects of radio and video promotion, at all formats, for the Columbia Records Group. He will work with senior management and department heads to determine release priorities and will create and implement promotion campaigns.

Based in New York, Walk will report to Will Botwin, president of the Columbia Records Group.

“Charlie Walk is ideally suited to take on the ‘big picture’ responsibilities of creative marketing and generate the overall synergy this position requires,” Botwin said. Walk’s career began in 1987 as a college marketing rep for Sony Music Distribution’s New England branch. After a decade of various promotion jobs, he became exec VP of promotion, Columbia Records Group, in 2000.
