RIO DE JANEIRO — Beach resort Buzios is again hosting the Brazilian version of ShowEast from Thursday through Sunday. Distribs will present the most important pics of the summer season (from December to March in the Southern Hemisphere) to the 30 exhibs.
Among the films screening are Warner Bros.’ “Alexander” and “Around the Bend,” UIP’s “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason” and Fox’s “The Dreamers.” Local indie distrib Paris Filmes will screen “House of Flying Daggers.”
Event, now in its third edition, will also premiere two local pics, helmer Bruno Barreto’s “The Marriage of Romeo and Juliet,” which Buena Vista will distribute, and Mauro Lima’s kidpic “Tainah 2,” a Columbia release.
“ShowBuzios is proof of the strength of the local film market, which has expanded the past five years,” said Paulo Sergio Almeida, prexy of film marketing company Filme B, which organizes ShowBuzios in partnership with Total Entertainment and Espaco Z.
“It also reflects the growth of the Brazilian production sector, which will have 45 releases this year,” he added.
