MONTREAL — Veteran Gallic helmer Claude Zidi will be jury prexy at the Montreal World Film Festival, fest president Serge Losique said Thursday.
Zidi is best known for 1984 cop comedy “Les Ripoux” and the more recent hit “Asterix and Obelix vs. Caesar.”
The jury will also include American helmer Jerry Schatzberg, whose pics include “The Day the Ponies Come Back,” which competed at Montreal in 2000; Czech animation helmer Bretislav Pojar (“Little Train”); Montreal producer Denise Robert (“The Barbarian Invasions”); Indian director Goutam Ghose (“In the Forest … Again”); Mexican thesp Diana Bracho (“Y tu mama tambien”); Italian thesp Anita Caprioli (“Tea With Mussolini”); and Spanish helmer Jamie Camino (“Los ninos de rusia”).
Opening the fest on Aug. 26 will be the world preem of “They Were Five,” Quebecois helmer Ghyslaine Cote’s French-lingo psychological drama; the closing night pic Sept. 6 is French hit “Les choristes.”
French thesp Isabelle Adjani will receive the Special Grand Prix des Ameriques lifetime achievement award on Aug. 27. Fest will feature a retrospective of five Adjani pics.
