'Clean,' 'Breaking' take early slots; later galas planned

The Cannes Film Festival has reorganized its screening schedule today in hopes Wong Kar-wai’s “2046” will reach the Croisette in time for its gala tonight.

The fest canceled today’s daytime screenings of “2046,” slotting Olivier Assayas’ “Clean” into the 8:30 a.m. press screening, and Johnnie To’s “Breaking News” into the 2:30 p.m. public screening slot.

The gala screening of “2046” this evening will be pushed back half an hour to 7:30 p.m., as will the gala of “Innocence” by Oshii Mamoru, now starting at 10:30 p.m.

The press screenings of “2046” will take place tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Salle Debussy and at 10:30 p.m. in the Salle Bazin.

As a consequence of these changes to the program, two press screenings of “Clean” tonight have been canceled.

The gala screening of “Clean” will go ahead as planned at 11:30 p.m. Friday, as will the “Breaking News” midnight screening Friday.

“2046” was expected to arrive late Wednesday by train.
