WB cops pitch deal with Turner, Liman

Shestack, Bartis will co-produce action pic

Warner Bros. has made a pre-emptive high-six-figure pitch deal for an untitled action drama to be scripted by Sheldon Turner as a directing vehicle for Doug Liman.

Idea is to make a ’70s-style action film revolving around members of the California Highway Patrol, who attempt to tame a lawless stretch of highway within their jurisdiction.

“The idea is to make a truly bad-ass action film, very much in the vein of ‘Lethal Weapon,’ about these guys who decide to do the right thing and take back a stretch of highway that is the scene of rampant violence,” Turner said.

Pic will be produced by Jon Shestack, Liman and Dave Bartis.

Turner takes the job after scripting Paramount’s remake of “The Longest Yard,” which will star Adam Sandler. Scribe just did a polish on MGM and Dimension’s “Amityville Horror” remake.

Turner also adapted the Thomas Perry book “Pursuit” for MGM and Overbrook partners Will Smith and James Lassiter.

Liman, who last directed “The Bourne Identity,” was involved in honing the pitch as he directed the Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie starrer “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” for New Regency.

Jeff Clifford and Geoff Schaevitz will oversee the project for WB.
