NEW YORK — Tartan Films USA has picked up North American rights to Allan Mindel’s debut feature, “Milwaukee, Minnesota.”
Pic stars Randy Quaid, Bruce Dern and Troy Garity in the story of a young, possibly mentally disabled man who must fend for himself when he’s targeted by con artists after his mother’s death.
Tartan will roll out the film in May. The banner’s British arm is additionally releasing the movie Friday in the U.K.
“Milwaukee” world-premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival last year. Michael Brody and Jeff Kirshbaum produced.
Mindel is a co-founder of the modeling agency Click and talent firm Flick.
Said Tartan’s MJ Peckos: “Allan has created a fabulously quirky film, with a standout performance by Troy Garity. It’s one of those films that just stays with you, and I expect a long life for this film in theaters and beyond.”
Tartan’s newly launched domestic banner has been ramping up edgy film fare of late: The unit recently picked up Greg Araki’s “Mysterious Skin” with TLA.
