Velvet Steamroller, the indie production company and fund behind Robert Englund’s horror pic “2001 Maniacs,” on which it is partnered with GreeneStreet, has hired Steve Bulzoni as VP of distribution and Duane Journey as VP production.
Hires come as Steamroller is gearing up three new pics and plans to have its next pic, a generational family drama, under way in December and two horror pics. Shingle is also planning two additional horror pics in early 2005. Three pics are budgeted at under $5 million. “I think we will end up handling between 5 -10 pictures a year,” said Jonathan Bross, president of Velvet Steamroller. “That’s a good number to target. Six pics for 05 is a good number for a young, aggressive company and we think with Steve and Duane onboard we’ll hit that target.
Slate of projects includes the hip-hop doc “There’s a God on the Mic” and a pic based on the current Percy Sledge album “Shining Through the Rain.”
Bulzoni will head up business development, sales and marketing for Steamroller while Journey will oversee all aspects of Steamroller’s productions and manage its L.A. office. He will also act as liaison with other co-production partners and acquire pics he can handle worldwide sales on produced outside the company.
Journey worked as a line producer for Sierra Pictures. Bulzoni was previously senior VP and general manager at York Entertainment.
