Stars align at Nantucket

Helmer, scribe on hand for panel discussion

Focus Features drama “The Door in the Floor,” starring Jeff Bridges and Kim Basinger, will make its East Coast premiere June 18 at the Nantucket Film Festival, attended by writer-director Todd Williams and author John Irving, on whose novel “A Widow for One Year” the film was based.

Adapted from Irving’s bestseller, pic chronicles one pivotal summer in the lives of a famous author of children’s books and his wife as they deal with tragic loss and marital strain. Jon Foster, Mimi Rogers, Bijou Phillips and Elle Fanning also star.

Irving and Williams will participate after the screening in an “In Their Shoes” panel discussion hosted by Rolling Stone film critic Peter Travers. Focus will release the pic June 23.

A second “In Their Shoes” panel will take place June 20, moderated by New York Times chief film critic A.O. Scott on the work of Nantucket honoree Charlie Kaufman, featuring the screenwriter with Jim Carrey and directors Michel Gondry and Spike Jonze.

Carrey will present the “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” scribe with the NBC Screenwriter Tribute at the June 19 awards ceremony. The ninth edition of the Nantucket fest runs June 16-20.
